Over in Richmond, The Station Cinema has some lovely festive offerings lined up. On Monday 24th November, there’s a one-man theatre performance of A Christmas Carol — something a bit different if you’re after a bit of tradition without the pantomime. They’re also showing a good mix of classic Christmas films as we get closer to December, so it’s worth checking their listings if you're in the mood for something festive (and warm).
If pantos are more your thing, the Georgian Theatre in Richmond is putting on Cinderella this year. It runs from early December through to the start of January, and it’s always a good laugh - especially if you’ve got kids (or just enjoy a bit of silliness).
For anyone in the Christmas shopping mindset, the Redmire Craft Market is just up the road and takes place on Saturday, the 18th of November. It’s a lovely little event in the village hall with local makers selling crafts, bakes, and gifts, and it raises money for Dementia UK. You can grab a bite and something warm to drink at the newly reopened village pub while you’re there.
A bit further afield, there are some really good festive markets worth the drive. Sledmere’s Christmas Fair is happening on 27th November, and York’s St Nicholas Fair runs from mid-November through to the 21st of December. If you fancy a proper festive day out - mulled wine, alpine huts, lights and food - York’s always a good bet.
Of course, you don’t need a big event to enjoy the area. This time of year is perfect for quieter walks. The Dales are crisp and peaceful in the colder months, and there’s nothing better than heading out for a morning walk, then coming back to your pod to warm up and switch off for the evening.
If you’re booked in to stay and want any tips on where to go or what’s on during your visit, feel free to ask. We’re happy to help you plan your days around what’s happening locally.
There’s still availability through late November and December, so if you’re thinking of a peaceful winter break with a bit of festive cheer, we’d love to see you.
